ABU DHABI, 17th October, 2017 (WAM) – Her Excellency Sarah Ibrahim Shuhail, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Center for Shelter and Humanitarian Care – Ewaa – confirmed that art therapy is one of the inspiring experiences for rehabilitating victims of human trafficking.
She said in a special statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the launching activities of the first edition of the Art Therapy Conference, under the slogan “Empowerment through Creativity”… “We are keen to adopt initiatives in accordance with the best international practices for dealing with survivors of violence and human trafficking, in a way that contributes to improving “Their conditions.”
She pointed out that the Abu Dhabi Center for Shelter and Humanitarian Care – Ewaa – dealt with about 32 cases of violence, abuse and human trafficking during the third quarter of 2023, stressing that holding this event is a reflection of our continued keenness, since the founding of the centre, to provide psychological support, rehabilitation and empowerment services that would help Survivors of violence and human trafficking help overcome their psychological traumas, including art therapy sessions, which play a pivotal role in rehabilitation.
She said that the Art Therapy Conference is an unprecedented step through which we highlight the tangible impact of art therapy on recovery and self-development, stressing active participation, engaging in meaningful discussions, and taking advantage of this opportunity to expand our awareness and communicate with experts and colleagues.
She expressed her hope that this conference will constitute an inspiring and valuable experience for all of us, and we will achieve further progress in indicators and develop them to reach the highest level we aspire to for the success of this conference and to come up with distinctive recommendations to enhance the role of art therapy in improving the mental health of individuals, especially those suffering from psychological trauma and the effects of violence.
She stated that on the second day of the conference, experts from the United Arab Emirates, including Sarah Powell and Natalia Gomez, participate in several sessions to discuss art therapy in the Arabian Gulf region, the protocol for treating trauma with art, digital art therapy, and many others. The conference concludes its activities with a session that addresses the future of art therapy. In the region, as well as the most important global developments in the field of art therapy practices and research.
She stressed that the conference includes a rich program of speakers, workshops and discussions that will address the therapeutic power of art, its cultural role, and its ability to enhance communication between individuals in various walks of life.
She added that the art therapy conference aims to provide a platform for developing art therapy methods, and to create a conducive environment to enhance knowledge and improve creative therapy methods through art. Art therapy provides a safe space for individuals to express what is going on inside them, develop their awareness and enhance their ability to develop themselves. Art therapy combines therapy. Psychological and creative, to help the person express himself more freely and accelerate his recovery journey.
