Rostock (dpa / mv) – Goldberg photographer Gerhard Stromberg has won the Rostock Art Prize 2019, endowed with 10,000 euros. The prize, which was awarded for the 14th time on Saturday, was announced this year for artistic photography. Landscapes are often the subject of Stromberg’s photographs, which for him are symbols of the impact of man on his environment, the reason given. For photography, he moved to India, Italy, France and Hungary. In the exhibition for the art prize, this is demonstrated as an example for the urban and natural landscapes of India depicted with great depth of field.
Stromberg, born in 1952 in Ludwigshafen / Rhein, worked as a photographer and university lecturer in various cities in Great Britain as well as in Trondheim, Helsinki and Belgrade. In Goldberg (district of Ludwigslust-Parchim) he founded the Goldbergkunst association and a gallery in 2011.
The art award is intended to honor artists who live in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania or whose work is related to the region. The award, sponsored by the Provincial Insurance Company, has been awarded since 2006 for changing genres such as painting, sculpture or free graphics.
