This year’s festival program will feature both Latvian artists and guests from Lithuania, Estonia, Italy and Great Britain, offering everyone the opportunity to find an artistic event of their interest and experience the interaction of music, dance, theater, cinema, circus, fine arts and the magic of nature.
The musical program of the festival will start with vocal groups Birds concert program Sacried&Profane, playing the most beautiful madrigals of ancient music and Spanish romances, as well as Latvian authors – J. Lūsēna, H. Sīmaņa, I. Kalniņa, R. Vazdikas and others. c. songs and ballads in a romantic sweet airy mood. The harmonies of the human soul’s temporal and spiritual nature will be played out in musical contrasts.
Guitarist Reinis Jaunais and cellist Erna Daugaviete, who have just released a new album, will also perform at the festival. Words, in a joint performance with world-traveled guitarist and composer of instrumental music from Great Britain – Craig Sutton, better known as The Flamenco Thief. Reina and The Flamenco Thief the unifying element of music is the love of traveling the world, both musicians met during their long concert tours. In the joint concert of the musicians, global instrumental music will intertwine with poetry in Latvian by various authors, flamenco guitar playing will interact with elements of electronic music style, influences of Balkan, Latin American and Jamaican music will also be heard.
Art picnic the music program will also feature Italian bands The Song of the Serena performances that will perform ancient music from the Mediterranean region, which has always been a cultural bridge between East and West. Italian music will include the traditional music of the Apulian region, romances, medieval pilgrim motifs, songs from Provence and Al-Andalus regions. A jazz band will also play 2KM, in which the musicians Karlīna Priedēna, Kalvis Sležis-Zaļkalns, Marts Dreļs and Mārcis Lipskis have joined together, and whose repertoire will include both original compositions by the group’s musicians and works by other authors close to them. Gatis Grīnbergs, on the other hand, will play the picnic with a layer box of instruments used by wandering musicians in the past.
A music group will also entertain the visitors Yuk, who create original music with influences from folk rock, dream pop, American folk and sacred music. Songs and arrangements are created by playing both rock and acoustic instruments (drums and percussion, bass and banjo, guitars, violin and flute), thus combining an academic, intelligent manner with the directness and simplicity of rock and folk, but above all maintaining a ballad melody. Professional musicians from the Latvian alternative, rock, folk and jazz scene have united in the group – composer, singer, guitarist Edgars Šubrovskis, composer, singer, flutist Sniedze Prauliņa, composer, multi-instrumentalist Oskars Jansons, violinist Rasa Pole, guitarist Ričards Dauksts and drummer Kalvis Sležis-Zaļkalns. The group’s albums have been nominated for the Music Record of the Year award Golden microphone and for the Austrian prize.
The festival will end with an after-party, where DJ Deila’s style of mixed dance music will be heard. DJ Deila works in the Latvian Radio Latgale studio on a daily basis. A bunch of crazy things producer and radio voice.
As usual, at the festival Art picnic every visitor has the opportunity to create or become part of an art adventure by participating in various master workshops, and the great Mārtiņas Burbuļu show, opportunity to practice archery and shooting.
In the creative platform Constellation cube children, young people, as well as parents and other interested parties will be able to participate in songwriting, try different instruments and take a look at the music recording studio. The constellation cube also has a social purpose, as it gives absolutely everyone the opportunity to try their talent. The author of the project is the musician Agnese Rakovska, with whom you will also be able to sing along. in the same way Art at the picnic there will be an opportunity to meet and get to know the social entrepreneurs of Rēzekne region, listen to their experiences and see new opportunities for social goals.
Association of dance professionals and enthusiasts Bag will offer a contemporary dance performance-installation Choreographic construction, inviting the audience to participate throughout the festival. On the other hand, a guest house Whistleblowers will open the new net park, where everyone will be able to go on adventures in the trees and test the stability of their balance at a safe height of several meters, because all the created passages and areas between the trees will be surrounded by net walls.
In the art program, you will be able to enjoy both the contemporary circus performance by the French artist Sylvain, who has been living in Estonia since 2014, and the 3D performance by Lithuanian Čurlionis Trails of Angelsand theater troupes Quadrifron a show for young people Mary and lightning about love and other likes. Also this year, the VIVA plein air of the Latgale artists’ association will take place, where the artists Vēsma Ušpele, Ilze Griezāne and Vija Stupāne will paint holiday feelings in their paintings, and when taking out the ceramic kiln, you will be able to talk with Candied potters Stanislava Viļuma and Viola Anna Bīriņa. Art picnic has been taking place since 2016, and its idea is to enliven the active sense of art by connecting different fields and disciplines, promoting creation together in art, environment, business and other sectors, keeping the person and his feelings at the center. The invitation of the picnic is to discover and appreciate the beautiful, diverse and interesting things around you, therefore everyone who wants to enjoy musical, visual and other pleasures in good company is invited to the event.
