The traditional inspiring and enriching Day for Art was held in Zosēni near the Skrāgi pub, artistically rich with talks, poetry, concerts, excursions, exhibitions.

Usually the event takes place at the end of summer, this year already in July in honor of the authors of the opera “Baņuta”, librettist Artūras Krūmiņas and composer Alfred Kalniņas, whose anniversaries are in the summer. It should be reminded that the neighborhood of Skrāgi pub is the birthplace of A. Krūmins.

The program was created by Dzidra Prūse, head of the Zosēni Cultural and Social Center, and Guntis Gailītis, a native of Zosēni, chairman of the Riga Latvian Society, who is also from the family of A. Krūmins, a native of Zosēni.

Dzidra Pruse emphasizes that the program is created every year so that it does not repeat itself, art is widely accessible, and there will always be something to offer. This time, the celebration is connected not only with the authors of “Baņuta”, but also with the Song and Dance Festival, which is why the performance of the Jaunpiebalga mixed choir was special, which included both the Song Festival repertoire and a greeting to the Jaunpiebalga Church on its anniversary. The performance of young talent, six-year-old Georg Rukmanis-Pochs with the choir was also exciting. During the evening, he was also invited to perform by the musicians Daumants Kalniņš and Kaspars Zemītis of the concert “One moment in music”.

Guntis Gailītis said that the day started on the wave of the Song Festival with the performance of the choir. He also reminded that in the early 1930s, at the end of the VII Song Festival, Jāzeps Vītols congratulated Artūras Krūmiņas, presenting his gratitude. It can still be seen in the Banyutas Museum in the Skrāgi pub. “For a long time, we could not understand exactly why it was presented to Artūrs Krūmiņas, but in time we found out that he was the technical director on this holiday, for that we thank you,” said G. Gailītis.

“We always introduce a touch of opera into the event, which this time was provided by Inese Galante, sharing her extensive experience. She is one of the first opera soloists who left Latvia to perform concerts in Western Europe, earning genuine admiration from the audience. But since “Baņuta” also has a touch of folklore, this time Riga’s dance musicians, who also presented the Dižkokli of Latvia, delighted the festivities. The dance club also involved the public,” said G. Gailītis. At the event, he also shared excerpts from Ilze Būmane’s forthcoming book “Piebaldzens ar vesta avarsni”. On the other hand, Margita Poriete told about the experience of creating the exhibition “Latvijas putni” in the Ethnographic Open Air Museum. During the days of art, 19 birds made from natural materials were placed in the festive area, perfectly fitting into the landscape.

In the open air, the 2008 video version of Pietro Mascagni’s opera “Clairfontaines Vineyard”, the production of “Figaro” by the opera class of the Academy of Arts, was shown. In the evening, actress Anita Grūbe shared her love for theater, Latvia, its beautiful nature, history.

Grapes donated by Ričardas Ivanovs, president of the Latvian Grape Growers Association, also grow in Skrāģi pub. “Wine as art” talks took place by the wall of grapes. The guests of the festival could also get to know the surroundings, the paintings of Zosēni plein air participants, view the photographs of the Latvian photographer Jura Kalniņš, which show Latvia from a bird’s eye view, one of which also includes the stage of the Song Festival.

Guntis Gailītis considers that the audience was diverse, including guests from abroad. Dzidra Pruse concludes: “The program was so wide and saturated that some of the audience chose to enjoy a specific event of the event: some wanted to listen to a conversation with opera diva Ines Galanti, others wanted to watch the movie about “Baņuta”, but many were attracted by the evening concert. For some visitors, the event is the reason to visit Skrāgi pub for the first time, to get to know it. This year was the largest number of visitors to Art of the Day in recent years.”

The event was organized by the administration of the Jaunpiebalga association, the Zosēni Cultural and Social Center and the Baņuta Foundation.
