Artists and their word is a cycle of creators’ meetings that Arte Madrid, the association founded in 2000 that brings together more than 50 modern and contemporary art galleries in Madrid, organizes jointly with the CondeDuque Contemporary Culture Center. For the first time, a program is presented that aims to give greater visibility to artists through words, their own explanations about their work and everything that may exist around the theme of creation and its representation.
This cycle will take place over six months, from January to June 2022, and will be open to the public in six specific meetings, led by the independent curator Virginia Torrente. Between two and three artists will participate in each meeting, who will talk about their work, their expectations, realities and frustrations, their day-to-day life, and everything related to their professional career.
We are used to seeing the work of artists but not so much to hearing their word. This will be a very good opportunity to complement the visual with the voice of its own authors.
Virginia Torrente (Bilbao, 1963) has been, among others, curator and head of exhibitions at the Madrid Contemporary Art Collection and the Patio Herreriano Museum in Valladolid, curator of visual arts at the Casa de América in Madrid, as well as creator and director of the first two editions of Jugada a 3 banda, an initiative that promoted curating in Madrid galleries during the months of April and May.
