Art in a small format, current and very affordable

As every year at this time, the Esther Montoriol gallery presents a new edition of DelicARTessen, the great collective exhibition dedicated to contemporary art in a small format.

For those who have come to believe that contemporary art is boring – perhaps after visiting some exhibitions with more discourse than poetic and plastic substance – it is possible that a visit to DelicARTessen could change their minds. The breadth of the central Barcelona gallery allows offering an abundant sample, with works of very different styles and tones. But what distinguishes this exhibition from others that might seem similar and also dedicated to small-format art, is a much higher level of demand.

DelicARTessen

In all its editions, DelicARTessen has been characterized above all by its free, selective and non-sectarian criteria, and also by its singular montage, apparently messy, but actually very measured and attractive. The paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, installations, dioramas, collages, assemblages, engravings, ceramics, videos, illustrations and comic originals that compose it they climb the walls on the two floors of the gallery and they form groups or constellations of images. And I will not say a galaxy of works so as not to exaggerate, but the truth is that in this 19 edition more than 400 works by 85 artists are exhibited.

International selection

The prices are affordable: there are good works from 60 euros, but quality pieces that do not reach a thousand euros predominate

The selection is international and the prices are affordable: there are works from 60 euros that are good and what predominates are pieces that do not reach a thousand euros and are also good. It is almost unbelievable that a painting like The chalet, by Jaume Roure, cost only one hundred euros. And there are excellent works of a larger format and more elaborate at very affordable prices. For example, both the figurative painting by Marcos Palazzi and the abstract painting by Ricardo Nomdedeu that we reproduce on this page are valued at 600 euros.

DelicARTessen

In this edition of DelicARTessen we can find some of the best abstract engravings by Juan Escudero, the very funny and free drawings by Jacques Flechemuller, excellent figurative paintings by Marcos Palazzi, abstract expressionist paintings by Ricardo Nomdedeu or geometric by Sarah West and Víctor Pérez-Porro, sculptures by Cesc Riera, objetual pieces by Jordi W. Saladrigas, abstract reliefs by Sabine Finkenauer, photographs by Aleydis Rispa, intervened images by Mariana Mizarela, exquisite dishes drawn by Leticia Feduchi and many other good plastic surprises.

The exhibition will be open until the end of January 2021, but the sold works do not usually remain on display and are often replaced by others by the same artists.
