the exhibition ‘PRINT3D’, organized by the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation at its Madrid headquarters, seeks to bring technology curious people closer to the most everyday aspects of 3D printing. Thus, the sample includes pieces ranging from architecture to health, through veterinary and aerodynamics, music, plastic arts, the design of furniture for the home or even the automotive industry.

In the words of Javier Hidalgo, head of science exhibitions at ‘la Caixa’ Foundation, “this exhibition will allow all those who want to visit it to understand how Is 3D printing positively affecting people’s lives?as well as wondering to what extent this technology will expand in the transformation of current production systems: accessibility, materials, costs, distribution, time, results, techniques… All the fundamental concepts that are covered within this limitless technology” .

Although the use of 3d printers It is not recent -it dates from approximately three decades ago-, it is now when its results begin to be more visible due to its unlimited benefits. “What we hope is to broaden people’s perspective on this technology. For example, to show that this tool is now more accessible to everyone. In addition, we want to make known all the types of materials with which it is 3D printed: plastics, ceramics and, above all, recycled. The latter are the ones that are generating a great environmental impact and a reduction in production costs in sectors such as construction, fashion, art, optometry or automotive engineering”, adds César García, scientific adviser to the exhibition organized by the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation.

In the exhibition, which is divided into eight thematic fields at the CaixaForum, it will be possible to explore ‘in situ’ 3D printing, at the same time that future scenarios that are increasingly closer to our time can be considered. The expository elements are accompanied by multiple didactic and audiovisual modules for visitors to discover and delve into this vast universe.

Likewise, the sample will have complementary activities during the almost three months of its duration, of which it is worth highlighting a cycle of conferences on the 3D bioprinting and food printing, as well as different guided visits for children, coffee and group gatherings, workshops for parents and children, as well as school visits.

The ‘PRINT3D’ exhibition will take place until May 21, 2023 and, among the more than 200 pieces that will be exhibited, stand out from musical instruments to orthopedic and animal prostheses, as well as jewelry, vehicles, shoes, clothing, or miniature models of architectural and engineering structures. There will also be some examples of 3D printers.
