Dubai: Zakia Kurdi
In an attempt to monitor the differences in the concept of reality, the “Art e Porte” gallery in Dubai, in cooperation with the “That” platform, held a diverse exhibition that brought together nearly twenty artists, male and female, under the title “Realistic Show”, and included a theatrical performance at the opening.
The exhibition presents various works in an attempt to monitor the concept and perception of reality from each artist’s point of view, in different ways and methods, according to Ghada Al-Qansh, the gallery’s director. And she says: Some artists dealt with the subject of reality in its limited moral framework, while others went to the dream area, that is, the desired reality. She added that the cooperation between the gallery and the “That” platform in Beirut enhanced the diversity aspect of the exhibition.
Regarding the idea of the exhibition, she explained that it came through contemplating the fading of the realism of reality itself as a result of the accelerating pace of changing its data, and added: Unfortunately, the feeling that we have become living in a surreal reality has become overwhelming for a large proportion of people who are unable to catch up with the pace of changes that we are constantly experiencing, and affect concepts and values. Ethics, habits, places, relationships, and everything we thought were closer to the constants in our world, or in the world of our generation at least. About his interactive work “outside the box” that he presented, the young Syrian artist, Muhammad Ramadan, explained that he tried through it to monitor the situation of Syrian youth and its impact on the changes that occurred in his life during the past years, highlighting the negative situation that prevails in general.
In a way that seems close, the artist Jamil Kasha expressed his view of the concept of theater of reality through his work “The Face of a Legend”, which is a model of a mythical being behind which a mirror is placed.
The Emirati artist, Fatima Lootah, participated in the work “Untitled”.
The Syrian artist, Omran Younis, expressed the idea in a metaphorical manner through an untitled quartet, suggesting the tyranny of the blackness of reality on the figures of his lead paintings, with a touch of bitterness that depicts the inevitability of the road, while hope remains hidden in the path of balance between light and shadow in the composition of the painting.
The exhibition, which will run until June 30, includes part of a theatrical show by director Walid Al-Quwatli, titled “The Bald Singer”, which he will present soon at the “Mall of the Emirates” theater.
