It is now that the works that flourished in the heat of last spring’s perfidious are coming to light: a spring in which the smell of flowers was changed to that of hydrogels, and in which instead of visits to the field we made excursions to the supermarket to buy inexplicable supplies of toilet paper. That was a real breeding ground for creativity: but, above all, it was a question of survival for many people who made art their lifeline, their window through which to take air and breathe in a confined Universe.
This is precisely the title of one of the exhibitions that the Center de Cultura Sa Nostra has hosted until last Saturday. A group of artists, including established figures in the art world such as José María Yturralde and Carmen Calvo, propose a personal vision of what time will end up labeling as the iconic image of the pandemic: the mask.
Through a project promoted by the Sa Nostra Culture Center and the Baleària Foundation that, with the aim of building bridges between both sides of the Mediterranean, has made it possible for these artists, most of them Valencians, to come together, ingenious works can be appreciated, others with a deep reading, others that produce rejection for their ignorant denial and others that denote the fragility of the mental health of its author as a consequence of the difficult situation experienced.
If it is well conceived, a group exhibition is usually a pleasant display to see, where the different visions of a specific subject enrich the experience of the public that delights in the contrasts between one and the other: fortunately this is the case of Universo confinado.
