Art against breast carcinomas

An art exhibition to give visibility to breast carcinomas. The artistic experience Paintings with Hopewhich will host Barcelona’s France Station from February 18 to March 3 returns to the Catalan capital to support research into metastatic triple negative breast cancer.

In the exhibition, promoted by Gilead Sciences, technology such as data visualization, artificial intelligence and robotics have been applied to art, a technique that has managed to capture and transform into nine digital illustrations the emotions of three breast cancer patients.

“Metastatic triple negative is the subtype with the worst prognosis of all types of breast cancer: it affects young patients, with an active life, family and work; women for whom every day counts, for whom options are very limited,” says David Marín, director of oncology at Gilead.

The initiative is touring the Spanish geography thanks to its exhibition in iconic train stations such as Madrid-Puerta de Atocha-Almudena Grandes, Valencia North Station or Málaga María Zambrano. Very soon Santa Justa will also arrive in Seville.

In Spain, 34,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year and it is estimated that around 12%-15% of them are triple negative. Within these, metastatic triple negative, which mainly affects young and premenopausal women, is the most aggressive subtype and only 12% of women who suffer from it survive five years.
