Arson attack on railway line in Bremen: letter of confession emerges

On Monday, train traffic around Bremen Central Station came to a complete standstill. A letter of confession has now been published online.

After a fire in the cable duct on the railway tracks in Bremen, a letter claiming responsibility has surfaced. It was published on an internet platform and the State Security Department of the Bremen Police is checking its authenticity, the Bremen police announced. The fires had led to severe disruptions in local and long-distance transport, affecting thousands of rail passengers.

The letter of confession was published on the left-wing platform Indymedia. “The disruptions caused by these attacks will hopefully lead to effective interruptions in the capitalist routine,” it says. Like no other company, Deutsche Bahn forms the backbone of the German economy and provides the fuel that fuels it.

In Bremen, the perpetrators deliberately set fire to the cables in a cable shaft on a railway embankment with an incendiary device early on Monday morning, police reported. The criminal investigation department began investigations and traces and evidence were secured. State security is investigating whether the incident was politically motivated. Due to the damage, no ICE trains between North Rhine-Westphalia and Hamburg were able to travel via Bremen Central Station on Monday. Regional trains on the Hamburg-Bremen route were also affected by the disruption.
