Arson attack on railway: letter of confession probably not authentic

It remains unclear who is behind the latest attack on the Bremen-Hamburg railway line. The police do not consider a recently surfaced letter claiming responsibility to be authentic.

On Friday, a text appeared on left-wing Internet forums that appeared to be a letter claiming responsibility for the recent attacks on the Bremen-Hamburg railway line and on railway facilities in Hamburg and Berlin. The alleged letter of claim speaks of “arson attacks in Bremen, Hamburg and Berlin”. The act of sabotage was aimed at Deutsche Bahn, which is involved in environmental destruction and militarization worldwide.

The police have now come to the conclusion that this is not an authentic letter of confession. The state criminal police offices in Bremen, Berlin and Hamburg told buten un binnen this when asked. Nevertheless, the police still believe it is likely that left-wing extremist groups could be behind the attack.

The attack in Bremen a week ago hit railway facilities near the Bürgerpark. The police found evidence that the perpetrators had deliberately set fire to cables in a cable shaft. ICE trains from North Rhine-Westphalia to Hamburg were therefore unable to travel via Bremen Central Station. Thousands of rail passengers were affected by disruptions in regional and long-distance services.
