Arson Attack Forces Evacuation of New Zealand Women’s Team from Hotel

The local authorities evacuated the New Zealand women’s team from the hotel where they are staying in their camp in Auckland, after an arson attack in the building, before their second match in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

According to the New Zealand news site “Stuff” on Sunday, the local authorities evacuated the New Zealand women’s team and the coaching staff from the hotel with all the guests, after a massive fire broke out in the “Pullman” hotel in downtown Auckland.

He added that the New Zealand police arrested a 34-year-old suspect, after he was charged with arson of the hotel and attempted robbery, and he is expected to appear before the judiciary on Monday.

According to local media, all members of the team are in good condition, and the New Zealand national team is scheduled to play its second match against the Philippines, next Tuesday, after the historic 1-0 victory in the opening match against Norway in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Auckland, one of the venues for the Women’s World Cup that started last Thursday and ends on the 20th of next month and is held in New Zealand and Australia, witnessed another incident on the day of the opening match, when a man shot some people at a construction site, killing him and killing two other people and injuring six, including a policeman.
