Arsenal’s list of failed signings continues to grow. To those already revealed and explained on several occasions by the legendary Gunners coach, Arsène Wenger (Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi y Zlatan Ibrahimovic), the names of other European football stars who the London club wanted to sign and could not are becoming known.
Among them are three top names and for which the best clubs in Europe are debated: Jadon Sancho, his Borussia Dortmund teammate Jude Bellingham and Chelsea striker Christian Pulisic. The three did convince them, however, Borussia Dortmund, although in the case of Pulisic, he ended up moving to the house of the eternal rival.
It has just been revealed by former Arsenal youth recruitment manager Steve Morrow, who left the post in 2019. Morrow has uncovered the portal Goal that Jadon Sancho could be signed up to two different occasions and he apologized: “All the big clubs will say they made mistakes and Jadon Sancho was without a doubt one of those”.
“We lost him once when he moved from Watford and went to Manchester City (in 2015, when he was 15 years old), and then again when he reached that age (youth) at City, which is when young players have to make a decision. Jadon felt his future was far from Manchester and we were very, very close to signing him, but the family felt at that time that the best opportunity for him was in Dortmund and he left “, he lamented.
Morrow called the Jude Bellingham case very similar: “When he came to the end of his contract in Birmingham and he was debating whether to stay there and sign a scholarship or move elsewhere, we were also very close to capturing him. But sometimes it just doesn’t happen and you have to accept it.” He stayed at Birmingham until 2020, when he signed for Borussia Dortmund.
Regarding Chelsea’s American striker, Christian Pulisic, the former London club youth manager, admits he passed a test before opting to join Borussia Dortmund (in 2015, from the US MLS PA Classics). Morrow revealed that they let him go because he was “physically underdeveloped.”
