Aaron Ramsdale has struggled to secure a place in Arsenal’s starting XI this season. The Englishman, who last season was one of the team’s top players, has been pushed in favor of Spaniard David Raya, who joined the club last summer.
But in the meeting with Brentford, the 25-year-old got the chance from the start and accounted for a huge score.
The national team goalkeeper would just clear the ball away, but took a bit too long and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa got in between with a block that went into the goal and set up Brentford’s 1-1 goal.
– I am devastated for him. How he feels now, only he knows because when you’re in such a position as a player and you’ve just conceded a goal, it’s incredibly tough, says BBC expert Jamie Redknapp and continues:
– It is good that his teammates are there to comfort him, but the last thing you want in such a situation is a hug, he concludes.
But Ramsdale didn’t have to bear the brunt of a heavy point loss in the title fight.
In match minute 86 could Kai Havertz finally make it 2–1 for Arsenal, which was also the final result of the match.
The win means that Arsenal move past Liverpool in the table into first place, with a game more played. On Sunday, it is Liverpool who face the third of three title contenders, namely Manchester City.
