Arsenal won after the “ugly” goal

Arsenal left Munich goalless and had their sights set on getting back into the domestic league with Wolves providing the opposition.

However, the fire yellow wolves started best, and were really close to 1-0 after half an hour of play.

Joao Gomes received the ball out on the right and broke into the lane. Finished hard and crafty – but not too crafty for David Raya who threw up a glove and managed to steer the ball onto the crossbar and out.

Instead, it was Arsenal who took the lead with perhaps the most “ugly” goal of the season.

Gabriel Jesus weaved his way through a bunch of opposition defenders before Leandro Trossard got the ball rolling and pressed on.

The strike was anything but clean but it mattered less when the ball bounced onto the cross via the inside of the post.

1-0 to Arsenal who extended it to 2-0 through Martin Ödegaard in stoppage time.

The result meant three important sticks. The clean sheet was the team’s sixth in a row away from home in the Premier League – which has never happened before in the club’s history.

– A huge victory for us after a tough week, says team captain Martin Ödegaard to Sky.

– It has been tough mentally, but we had to keep going. Tonight was about bouncing back and winning and we did that so I’m happy.

The team now goes up in the league.

However, Manchester City have a game less played and are three points clear of Arsenal.

Five matches remain in the Premier League.
