(PLO)- Arsenal suffered a heavy blow when the extent of Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injury was revealed.
That is the headline shared in the Mirror (UK) today (March 22) about the situation of Arsenal’s forces with the latest injury of Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

(PLO)- Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus has revealed why his team are currently top of the Premier League table at the moment, and are eight points behind defending champions Man City.
Takehiro Tomiyasu suffered a knee injury during Arsenal’s Europa League defeat by Sporting CP on penalties last week and has undergone surgery to correct the problem.

However, Arsenal have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu will miss the rest of the season. The Japanese right-back limped off in the 9th minute of the Europa League round of 16 second leg after he was tackled by the opposition. Tomiyasu, who was replaced by Ben White, left the Emirates Stadium on crutches and coach Mikel Arteta looked unconvinced when asked about his condition.
After that game, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “Tomiyasu looked quite serious from his reaction and from what he told me, but it is clear that it is too early to conclude the matter.” The Japan international was also forced to sit out the Gunners’ 4-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Now, it has been confirmed that Tomiyasu will miss the rest of the campaign after undergoing “successful surgery” and he will no longer feature in Arsenal’s Premier League title race.

The former Bologna defender is expected to return ahead of pre-season preparations. And Takehiro Tomiyasu’s goal now is to fully recover to be ready for next season.
This is sure to be a blow to the Gunners’ bid to win the Premier League, with Tomiyasu a key figure in the Gunners’ dressing room. Takehiro Tomiyasu has featured in 21 of Arsenal’s 28 Premier League matches, despite starting just six of them. Coach Mikel Arteta preferred to use Ben White in the right-back position.
Tomiyasu can also play on the left side of Arsenal’s defence, but Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney are taking turns doing a great job there. In all competitions, Tomiyasu has made 32 appearances and can be satisfied with what he has done for Arsenal this season.
Last year, White heaped praise on team-mate Tomiyasu for the way the Japanese defender has adjusted to life at the Gunners after moving from Bologna.

“Tomi is amazing,” said Ben White, “He’s always focused, it’s an honor to play alongside him. Tomi does simple things at world class. He is very alert and not careless in matches. From the very beginning, he completely understood English and spoke as well as I did.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Martin Keown also praised Tomiyasu earlier in the season and admitted he was the Gunners’ best defender. That was after Takehiro Tomiyasu shone in Arsenal’s Europa League match against PSV.
Martin Keown told BT Sport: “Tomiyasu is probably Arsenal’s best defender, in a one-on-one situation. Look how dominant he is in the air. He’s really a big boy. big. Arsenal solved that problem (with Gakpo) really well.”
