Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League for the first time since Christmas Day with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brentford at the Emirates Stadium.
Declan Rice had put Arsenal ahead in the 19th minute, but Yoane Wissa capitalized on a mistake by Aaron Ramsdale in first-half stoppage time.
But Kai Havertz scored in the 86th minute to continue his excellent form and give Arsenal an eighth successive victory, putting them first ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City, who meet at Anfield on Sunday.
Arsenal took the lead in the 19th minute when Declan Rice took advantage of Ben White’s cross and headed past Mark Flekken for his sixth Premier League goal of the season.
Just when Arsenal seemed to be taking the lead in the first half, Brentford equalized out of nowhere. In the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time, Ramsdale wasted time with a clearance in their six-yard box and allowed Yoane Wissa to close in and block the goal.
Arsenal finally regained the lead in the 86th minute when White crossed from the right to Havertz, who beat Flekken to score his eighth league goal of the season, scoring for the fourth consecutive game.
Brentford are winless in five league games, leaving them in 15th place with 26 points, five above the relegation zone.
