London, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) Arsenal remained firm today at the top of the English Soccer League, after beating Leeds United 4-1 on matchday 29.
Brazilian Gabriel Jesús spearheaded the London club’s offense at the Emirates Stadium, first by putting his team ahead from a penalty kick in the 35th minute and then putting his squad’s third goal in the 55th minute, finishing perfectly a pass from Leandro Trossard .
At the start of the second half (m. 47), Benjamin White, assisted by the Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli, also scored for the Premier League leaders.
Leeds, 16th in the table, cut it short in minute 76 with a goal from the Danish Rasmus Nissen Kristensen, but Arsenal put an end to any doubt with the final 4-1 at minute 84 thanks to a header by Swiss Granit Xhaka finishing off a Norwegian Martin Odegaard’s accurate center.
Before, Manchester City, second in the standings, beat Liverpool by the same result of 4-1 and continues to eight points behind the leader.
The Reds opened the scoring after 17 minutes with a goal from Egyptian Mohamed Salah, but the Citizens reacted quickly and achieved success supported by goals from Argentine Julián Álvarez (m. 27), Belgian Kevin de Bruyne (46), Ilkay Gundogan (53) and Jack Grealish (74).
Chelsea, 11th in the table, suffered a new setback at home by losing 2-0 to Aston Villa (ninth) and allowing goals from Ollie Watkins in the 18th minute and John McGinn (56).
Leicester, 18th in the tournament, further complicated their permanence by falling 1-2 in the final discount against Crystal Palace (12) and Bournemouth left the relegation zone and rose to position 15 by beating Fulham 2-1 (nineth).
The other two games played on Saturday ended in a draw, 1-1 between Nottingham Forest (14th in the Premier League) and Wolverhampton (13th), and 3-3 between Brighton (sixth) and Brentford (seventh).
