Arsenal is still looking for a long-term project

Arsenal remains patient to have a competing team in the coming seasons and gave the Spaniard Mikel Arteta a contract for three more years.

The former Arsenal midfielder has his team on the brink of Champions League qualification in what could be the best campaign in a long time for the London leaders.

Arteta was hired in December 2019 to replace Unai Emery, and his contract expired at the end of this season, which today leads Villareal in LaLiga de España.

“We want to take the club to the next level and really compete with the best teams”the Spaniard said in a statement. “To do that, we have to play in the Champions League.

“We have to be able to evolve the team, improve our players, improve all departments, generate even more connection with our fans, improve the atmosphere in the Emirates (Stadium), be able to recruit the best, the best talents and the best people for this club to take this project to that level”, said Arteta who was Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City a few seasons ago.

Arsenal is one of the most important clubs in England. It is one of the most popular in the world but has not been lucky in recent years because it has not had a template full of figures.

“Mikel’s commitment and passion are clear for all to see”said Josh Kroenke, speaking on behalf of the Kroenke family ownership group. “We’re confident that as we go forward, he’ll get us back in contention for the best trophies in the game.”

A premise that is badly needed in London. Today, Arsenal has been relegated in importance in English football to below even the fifth step.
