Arsenal Beats Nottingham Forest in Premier League Debut, Newcastle Dominates Aston Villa: Weekend Football Recap

London (AFP) – Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 this Saturday at the Emirates Stadium in their Premier League debut, in which the main signings of the ‘Gunners’ were starters, on a first day in which Newcastle started with a 5-1 win over Aston Villa.

In London, the Englishman Eddie Nketiah (minute 26) opened the scoring after a great roulette assist from the Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli and minutes later Bukayo Saka (32) doubled the lead with a powerful shot from the edge, directly to the left corner.

The Nigerian Taiwo Awoniyi closed the gap in the final stretch (82) but the three points stayed in north London.

Timber injured

“We totally dominated this afternoon but when we had the chance to kill the game we didn’t,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said.

The ‘Gunners’, ranked second last season behind Manchester City, have invested heavily in this market to take their ambitions a step further and in Arteta’s first starting eleven of the season he put his three main players as starters signings.

Declan Rice and the German Kai Havertz made their midfield debut together with the captain, the Norwegian Martin Odegaard. Dutch winger Jurrien Timber also made his debut on the left flank, who however had to be replaced due to injury at the start of the second half.

Although the transfers worked, Arsenal’s new electronic ticketing system did not, which failed during the entrance of fans to the Emirates Stadium, leaving thousands of them outside and forcing the kick-off to be delayed half an hour, from the scheduled 11:30 GMT at 12:00 GMT.

Heading into the title race, the victory allows Arsenal to level on points with City, who beat Burnley 3-0 on Friday and are ahead of them in the table on better goal difference.

Fourth last season, Newcastle promises strong emotions with a comprehensive victory against another team with ambitions, Spanish coach Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

At St James Park, Newcastle’s star signing, Italian Sandro Tonali, scored his first goal after six minutes, while for Villa it was French international Moussa Diaby, former Bayer Leverkusen player, who made his Premier League debut with a showy auction (11).

But the Magpies took flight with a brace from Sweden’s Alexander Isak (16 and 57) and goals from Callum Wilson (77) and Harvey Barnes (90+1).

Chelsea-Liverpool el domingo

Before, Fulham won 1-0 at Everton’s home ground, like Crystal Palace in Sheffield by the same result, while Bournemouth and West Ham drew 1-1.

Luton, a humble and historic club from the outskirts of London, which appears in the Premier League after climbing from the fifth category in a decade, had a romp at its baptism on the Brighton pitch (4-1), with an average hour to forget in which he conceded three goals.

The first day of the Premier continues on Sunday with Brentford receiving a Tottenham orphan of Harry Kane, signed this Saturday by Bayern Munich, and the star duel between Chelsea and Liverpool.

On Monday the date closes with Manchester United receiving Wolverhampton.
