In a somewhat unusual way, three games were played in the Premier League on Wednesday night, and three of the first four teams of the English first-class football championship also played. On paper, however, Arsenal beat Luton easily, 2-0, temporarily leading the table, while Manchester City beat Aston Villa 4-1 with a confident game.
Arsenal lost their resident goalscorer, Bukayo Saka, against Manchester City over the weekend, and Luton have teased several big teams this year, but now they have so many injuries that they also have a 16-year-old defender sitting on the bench, so they didn’t have much of a chance. Arsenal’s first goal was scored by Ødegaard in the 24th minute, and they doubled their lead even before the break, after a huge defensive error, Daiki Hasioka could only dig the ball into his own net.
Manchester City won an even smoother victory against Aston Villa, which was also struggling with injuries and lost world champion goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez before the match, even though it looked like the match could be closer in the first half. Durán responded to Rodri’s goal scored in the 11th minute just ten minutes later, but Foden made sure that City took the lead at the break.
He then scored two more goals in the second half, thus leading the title defenders, without Haaland and De Bruyne, to victory with a hat trick.
In the third match, which is not very interesting from the point of view of the league title, Brighton played a 0-0 draw with Brentford. With their victory on Wednesday night, Manchester City is still in third place, while Arsenal took the lead in the table, but they probably won’t be happy about this for long, because Liverpool, who defeated Brighton at the weekend, will play against bottom of the league Sheffield United on Thursday night, and a huge it would be a surprise if Szoboszlai didn’t easily pocket the three points.
