The former gymnast Nuria Cabanillasthree-time world champion and gold medalist at the ’96 Atlanta Olympic Games, sponsored this Friday the presentation event, in Cáceres, of the third edition of the project ‘Pink Arrows against Breast Cancer’, organized by lExtremadura Archery Federation along with the Oncological Association of Extremadura (AOEX). It includes open days and a final qualifying trophy for the Spanish Championship.
Recently recognized with the Espiga Award ‘Impulse to Physical Activity and Sport 2023’, from Caja Rural de Extremadura, and the Gold award ‘Diputación Contigo’, from the Youth and Sports Foundation of Extremadura’, this project aims Raise awareness in society about the importance of prevention and fight against breast cancer, highlighting the therapeutic benefit of archery in mastectomized people to aid in lymphedema recovery.
This year will focus on making visible the breast cancer in men, a segment of the population that is often overlooked in awareness campaigns.
During the month of October, they will be held on different days in Extremadura, as open days organized by local clubs to invite people to practice archery and raise awareness about this disease. The highlight of all activities will be Flechas Rosas Trophy, on October 27, qualifier for the Spanish Championship. The competition will take place in Cáceres, organized by the San Jorge Archers Club, in the Sports City of Cáceres.
The objective is Raise funds for the association through all activities. Likewise, part of the championship registration will be delivered to the association. Together with Nuria Cabanillas, Jesús Vilés Piris, managing director of the Extremadura Health Service (SES), presented the initiative; Isabel Rolán Merino, president of the Oncological Association of Extremadura (AOEX); Jaime Jabato García, coordinator of sports infrastructures of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports; Diego Escudero Sánchez, breast cancer oncology patient; and Raquel de San Macario Sánchez, president of the Extremadura Archery Federation.
