Arrogant Fortuner Driver’s Viral Behavior: Defies Police Authority by Stopping Instead of Persisting

Jakarta

Viral on social media the action of the Toyota Fortuner driver who insisted on walking even though he was stopped by traffic police (polantas) personnel at the Cengkareng road junction, West Jakarta. The officer stood in front of Fortuner to stop, but was ignored.

In the video circulating on the TikTok account @arisbosco, a black Fortuner with B-12-MGN number was stopped by the police. Even though the police continued to block the car’s pace, Fortuner continued to advance while slowly ‘heading’ the police standing in front of him.

After investigating, it turns out that the car driver violated traffic signs. West Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Head Commissioner Maulana Karepesina said the incident occurred on Monday (20/3/2023), around 17.00 WIB.

“That’s part of the road arrangements for the Rawa Buaya Toll Road and the right turn should use two lanes, but drivers take the third additional lane,” said Maulana quoted detikNews, Tuesday (21/3/2023).

“So a warning was given. Vehicles are also busy, so members need to limit vehicles so that they are in accordance with the lane,” he added.

At that time the officer tried to warn the driver by stopping the vehicle. But the driver kept going.

“The driver violated the sign and was reprimanded by the members. However, the vehicle continued,” he said.

Maulana said that his party was currently looking for the whereabouts of the perpetrator because it was clear that his actions violated existing regulations.

Separately, the former Head of the Sub-Directorate of Gakkum Polda Metro Jaya, Budiyanto, explained that the Fortuner driver’s reckless actions were categorized as an act against the law.

“The violator does not want to be stopped by the officer, instead crashing into it is an illegal act. You can be subject to criminal traffic violations and general crimes,” said Budiyanto, Tuesday (21/3/2023).

He said traffic offenders who do not comply with officers’ orders and even commit violence or threats can be subject to Article 282 in conjunction with Article 104 paragraph (3) of Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ) with the threat of one month’s imprisonment or a fine. IDR 250,000 maximum.

He added that Article 212 of the Criminal Code regulates violence against officials on duty, as follows;

Whoever with violence or threats of violence opposes a civil servant who is carrying out his lawful work, or opposes a person who is helping a civil servant because it is his obligation according to law or because of the request of the civil servant, is punished, for resisting, with imprisonment for life for one year and four months or a maximum fine of Rp. 4,500.
