Arrival of Sputnik V Vaccines in Baja California Before Winter: Secretary of Health Updates

More doses of vaccines against Covid-19, of the Sputnik V variety, are expected to arrive in Baja California before the winter period begins, reported the state’s Secretary of Health, Adrián Medina Amarillas.

So far there is no fixed date for the arrival of the vaccines, since this is a federal vaccination program and it depends on national authorities for this.

“It is estimated that it will arrive at the end of October, beginning of November, before winter begins, with the intention of applying a booster to high-risk people”

Medina Amarillas confirmed that the vaccine will be especially intended for people over 60 years of age and people with some comorbidity or chronic disease, such as hypertension, diabetes or people with HIV-AIDS, among other conditions.

Given the controversy over the types of vaccines available in Mexico, such as Abdala and Sputnik V, the official recalled that on several occasions the authorities have reviewed the vaccines in detail to verify that they meet the standards.

He pointed out that both vaccines were found to be more than 92% effective, which is why it is considered a vaccine that provides sufficient protection to avoid complications in infected people.

According to the latest report from the state’s Ministry of Health, as of September 8, 929 active cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Baja California, with 752 new confirmed cases and one death in the previous week.

Of the total active cases, almost 58%, 538 cases, were detected in Tijuana, 228 in Ensenada, 56 in San Quintín, 53 in Playas de Rosarito, 36 in Mexicali, 18 in Tecate and so far there are no reports of infections in San Felipe.
