Transport company Arriva, which is also active in the Netherlands, will have a new owner. Parent company Deutsche Bahn has decided to sell the part to the American investor I Squared Capital.

The German railway company announced this on Thursday. Deutsche Bahn has wanted to get rid of these foreign activities for some time, in order to free up money for investments in the home market.

Arriva provides transport in many places in our country, such as Limburg, Brabant and Friesland. This concerns both bus and train transport. Of the public transport company’s total of 35,500 employees, approximately 5,500 work in the Netherlands.

Parties in various provinces have recently asked questions to the provincial government about the consequences of the deal. It had previously emerged that Deutsche Bahn was planning to sell Arriva to the investor. This led to critical questions from PVV, PvdA and SP.

The parties want more clarity about what the takeover means for public transport in the region. There is a fear that an investment company mainly wants to use public transport to make a profit, while according to parties it is a public facility.
