Michael Cruz and Berto Dominguezages 19 and 21, were arrested in a months-long investigation into at least five gas station robberies that occurred in several New York counties.
The robberies happened between September and November 2023, Bedford police announced this week, reported Daily Voice. This investigation was conducted by a task force comprised of the police departments of the condados Bedford, Mount Pleasant y Westchester along with various support agencies in the counties of Putnam y Rocklandwhere more commercial robberies had occurred.
In the early hours of the morning of Saturday, December 23, four men were arrested by this work group in the Dutchess County after a foot chase that began following a robbery at a gas station in the town of Fishkill.
Later Dominguez and Cruz were charged with a total of 20 counts, including robbery, theft, conspiracy and criminal damage. After being processed in Bedford Municipal Court and turned over to the Mount Pleasant Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for additional charges. The investigation remains active and more arrests are expected, Bedford police added.
All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Service stations are frequent scenes of robberies and other incidents of violence. Earlier this month Joshua Roston was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for fatally running over an immigrant gas station manager to flee without paying $22 in Long Island (NY).
In September, a 33-year-old Ecuadorian immigrant was shot to death during an alleged robbery outside a gas station near his home in Brooklyn (NYC). In March, a 51-year-old man was shot in the head while he was pumping gas at a gas station in The Bronx (NYC).
In January an argument at a gas station in Alto Manhattan (NYC) sparked a chain-reaction crash that sent a car hurtling into a restaurant window, injuring about 20 diners.
In November 2022, a gas station employee in The Bronx (NYC) was shot in the head while working. That same month, a 23-year-old Guatemalan man died after being hit with a wooden board during a confrontation with a group of men in front of a gas station in Queens (NYC).
In October 2022, a thief beat a gas station employee in Brooklyn (NYC) while his two accomplices robbed the establishment, the New York police reported when releasing a video of the attack.
In the summer of 2019, a 51-year-old Mexican driver was killed by her own vehicle after washing it at a gas station in Queens.
