The police in Rotterdam have arrested three suspects for the shooting on Coolsingel, where the Summer Carnival was taking place at the time. One of them was shot by the police after he himself had opened fire on someone shortly before. Both the shooter and the victim have been arrested.
Shortly after the incident, a third suspect was arrested near the Van Oldenbarneveltplaats, a little further on. He is suspected of involvement in the shooting. Further details have not yet been announced.
A total of three people were injured on the Coolsingel. In addition to the shooter and his victim, a woman who saw everything happen was also injured. Startled, she tried to run away and fell.
Earlier shooting incident
The condition of the injured is not yet known. The organization of the Summer Carnival has shut down the program for safety reasons after the shooting.
It was not the first shooting incident on Coolsingel that day. At the end of the afternoon, a man also fired one or more shots. Unlike in the evening, no one was injured and no one has yet been arrested.
There was also a violent incident on Witte de Withstraat, one of Rotterdam’s entertainment streets, last evening. Around 10:45 p.m., two men got into an argument there, and one of them was stabbed. The victim, a 29-year-old from Rotterdam, was taken to hospital.
