Five people, including a minor, were arrested in connection with the murder of Money Perkins (37), shot inside his laundry room in Brooklyn (NYC) when his gold chain valued at $60,000 was stolen, leaving three orphans.
The homicide occurred shortly before 6 pm on December 1 in East Flatbush. More than three months later, the NYPD announced the arrests of Ronnie Butler (46) -cousin of the victim-, Shaleek Riddick (19), Diante Stinson (20), Louis Mercado (48) and their 16-year-old stepson identified as Zecharyah “Zoota” Slay, by Daily News. All five face charges including murder, conspiracy to rob and criminal possession of a weapon.

According to NYPD, Perkins He was cleaning his laundry room when a group of men in winter sweatshirts and hoodies walked in., they displayed weapons, knocked him to the ground and shot him to steal the gold chain that he was wearing around his neck and that the thieves took. On Sunday, a Hispanic man was fatally shot outside the building where he lived with his mother in Upper Manhattan, abruptly ending his dream of joining the military like his brother.
So far this year, until February 25, 44 people citywide were victims of homicides, a 27% drop from the same period last year, when there were 60 cases, according to NYPD statistics. Shootings have decreased in 2024 with 109 incidents as of February 25 compared to 159 in the same period in 2023.
