Several dozen people gathered this Thursday, October 12 in Lille for a rally in support of the Palestinians banned by the prefecture.
Ten people were arrested this Thursday, October 12 during a rally in support of the Palestinians banned in Lille (North), the Northern prefecture told AFP. The people arrested were for “rebellion” and “refusing to disperse,” the prefecture said, without giving further details.
Dozens of demonstrators
Despite its ban on Wednesday evening by the prefect of the North, Georges-François Leclerc, several dozen people were present at the gathering place, Place de la République, shortly before 6:30 p.m.
Three people were quickly arrested for not having obeyed the summons of the CRS aimed at dispersing a group of around fifty demonstrators, some of whom shouted “Long live Palestine, down with injustice”, noted journalists from BFM Grand Lille and AFP.
Later, around a hundred people, removed from the Place de la République by the police, demonstrated in the streets of Old Lille chanting “Israel assassin, Macron complicit”, before being dispersed by tear gas fire.
Two new arrests took place shortly before 7:30 p.m., following an altercation between two young demonstrators and CRS, noted an AFP journalist.
The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, ordered Thursday afternoon the ban on all pro-Palestinian demonstrations, in a telegram sent to the prefects. “The organization of (the) prohibited demonstrations must give rise to arrests,” he wrote.
