The investigating judge in Antwerp arrested seven men and one woman on Friday on suspicion of kidnapping a 24-year-old man in Portugal. That man was detained and released in Portugal in January this year.
Ransom
On January 27, 2021, the kidnapping and hostage-taking of a man in Lisbon was reported in Antwerp. He had to contact relatives asking for a ransom in exchange for his release. The Portuguese police released the victim a day later. He was detained in a hotel in Lisbon.

The investigation by the federal judicial police in Antwerp made it clear that the facts probably took place within the criminal drug environment. The investigation knew several people involved. Information from the judicial investigation into SKY ECC has confirmed a number of elements and provided additional information.
The investigating judge ordered seven searches on Thursday, December 16. The suspects are men between 24 and 43 years old from Borgerhout, Deurne, Borsbeek and Brasschaat and a 25-year-old woman from Borgerhout. The investigation is still ongoing, according to the Antwerp Public Prosecution Service.
