Arrests for fire at migrant camp on Samos

The Greek police have arrested several migrants following the fire last night near the migrant camp Kyt on the island of Samos.

It is not clear how many detainees are involved. A police source speaks to AFP news agency of thirteen arrests, Reuters news agency talks about three arrests.

The fire started in a wooded area not far from the camp’s registration center. The shelter itself was not in danger, according to the fire service.

The overcrowded camp on Samos officially has room for 650 migrants, but there are now about 4,600 living there. The camp is in lockdown after it was announced yesterday that two migrants have tested positive for the corona virus. There is a fear that the number of infections will increase.
