Arrests for false reports of street robbery in Amsterdam

The police have arrested three Amsterdammers in an investigation into false reports of street robbery. The suspects were all arrested in the same house. It concerns two men aged 20 and 23 and a woman aged 19.

Between March and June, several reports of a street robbery or attempted robbery in south-east Amsterdam were reported to the police.

The three said that happened in the evenings, when they were running, the local broadcaster reports AT5. They would have been threatened by one or more perpetrators to take away valuables.

Compensation fund

An extensive police investigation revealed that the suspects may have made a false report in order to be able to submit an application to the Violent Offenses Compensation Fund. Money can be paid through this fund for, for example, victims of robberies.

The suspects are still being heard. Police do not rule out the possibility of more people being arrested in the case.
