Authorities implement constant operations in key points of the city.
In recent weeks, Piedras Negras has recorded a worrying increase in the number of motorists arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the town council secretary, Hermelo Castillón Martínez.
This situation has caught the attention of local authorities, who have intensified operations to prevent accidents and guarantee road safety in the city.
Average. According to Castillón Martínez, in the last two weeks there has been a significant increase in the arrests of people who were driving under the influence. “The number of detainees has gone from an average of 10 to 12 per week to between 25 and 30 cases in recent days,” said the official.
This increase is also reflected in the number of vehicles that have been detained as part of anti-alcohol operations.
The operations have been carried out constantly with the aim of reducing road accidents related to alcohol consumption, one of the main causes of accidents in the region. However, despite these efforts, the recent increase in arrests has raised concern among municipal authorities.
The town council secretary highlighted that anti-alcohol operations have been an effective measure to reduce accidents in the city. Thanks to these operations, the average number of arrests had remained low compared to previous years.
However, the current rise has led authorities to reinforce surveillance measures, especially during weekends and in high traffic areas. Checkpoints have been established in various strategic areas of the city.
