A woman was arrested Wednesday for approaching, but not reaching, former U.S. President Donald Trump during a hearing in his civil trial in New York over alleged widespread fraud in the management of his empire. real estate, the court services indicated.
Donald Trump did not appear perturbed and appeared to learn of the incident when he spoke to reporters later. “Who was arrested? We don’t know any of that,” he said. Then he immediately went after his favorite target in the case, Attorney General Letitia James, who triggered the trial in New York State Supreme Court.
No one ‘was in danger’
“You know who should be arrested? The attorney general should be arrested,” he added. The woman who approached the ex-president, later identified as an employee of another court, “disrupted the hearing by getting up and heading to the front of the room and shouting at Donald Trump that she wanted to help him,” said a court spokesperson, Lucian Chalfen, after the incident, which occurred late in the morning.
The woman was ordered to step back and sit on the public benches, an AFP journalist noted, and the hearing continued. Dressed in a skirt and blazer, she was “arrested by court security officers before being near Donald Trump” or another party, the spokesperson emphasized, adding that no one “ was never in danger.
Calmly escorted outside, she was prosecuted for “contempt of court,” placed on “administrative leave” and barred from entering New York courts until further notice, Lucian added. Chalfen. Since the start of this civil trial on October 2, the 45th President of the United States (2017-2021) has regularly attended the hearings, which triggers significant security measures, but the proceedings are public.
Busy with golf
In this civil trial, on which the future of Donald Trump’s real estate empire depends, the state’s attorney general, Letitia James, accuses the Republican and two of his children, Eric and Donald Jr, of having overvalued by several billion dollars for the Trump Organization’s golf courses, residences and New York skyscrapers in the 2010s, to obtain more advantageous loans from banks.
The favorite in the Republican primary polls for the 2024 presidential election attended the hearings on Tuesday and Wednesday. But he indicated that he probably would not come on Thursday, because he was already busy with the LIV international professional circuit golf tournament, which takes place on one of his properties near Miami.
