Three of the activists who mobilized last Thursday by walking from the highway to Martinique Aimé-Césaire airport were sentenced this Monday evening (September 13) in immediate appearance, variously for obstruction of traffic, violence or threats of dead for one of them.
Bruno P., 51, Kevin Z., 34 and Lubert L., 60, were tried on Monday in immediate appearance. They are all being prosecuted for obstructing movement and refusing to cooperate during the proceedings. Only Bruno P. is also implicated for contempt, threat of death and violence against a person holding public authority.
Last Thursday (September 9), around thirty people gathered on the A1 motorway, at the Lézarde bridge in Lamentin, after a call to demonstrate. At around 2 p.m., the convoy headed for the airport. He had obstructed traffic and a police blockade had been set up to disperse the group.
“Right to remain silent”
Three of the protagonists were arrested. One of them, Bruno P., allegedly had an altercation with a police officer. According to the minutes, the 50-year-old used a flag pole to injure the official, who was also insulted and threatened with death.
During the hearing, the three defendants “used (their) right to remain silent”. They all appeared on probation following their previous convictions.
At the end of the deliberation, the judges condemn Lubert L. to 3 months in prison, plus 7 months of revocation of his previous suspension. Kévin Z, receives 3 months in prison, plus a revocation of his 6-month probationary period.
Bruno P. is released for death threats and insults but sentenced for the violence. He was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment, and a revocation of a 6-month suspension.
All three are being held in pre-trial detention at the Ducos penitentiary center.
