The courts ordered the extension of the arrest warrants issued in the name of three persons referred to justice for committing the crime of aggravated robbery. According to the lawmen, the three robbed a 40-year-old woman and her 13-year-old son. Under the threat of a knife, they stole from the victims 5,000 dollars, 500 pounds and 2,000 lei, plus a mobile phone and the car key. To ensure their escape, the defendants tied the victims’ hands, feet and mouth. The robbery took place on the night of August 24 to 25, 2023, in a motel in Craiova. The three defendants, all from Sibiu County, were pre-arrested on August 31.
The Dolje police announced, at the end of August, the arrest of three people suspected of committing the crime of aggravated robbery. The suspects were picked up by law enforcement officers following searches in Sibiu County.
“Following the searches, two 24- and 32-year-old young men and a 24-year-old woman were identified, suspected of having committed the crime, and material evidence was seized for further investigations. In fact, the three are suspected of assaulting a 40-year-old woman, together with her 13-year-old son, both from the city of Craiova, on the night of August 24/25. Under the threat of a knife, he would have stripped them of 5,000 dollars, 500 lira and 2,000 lei, as well as other goods”, stated the Dolje policemen.
The robbery took place in a motel in Craiova. In fact, the owner of the motel was the one who reported the violent incident to the police. He allegedly claimed that the victims were accommodated at the motel against their will, by unknown persons. The law enforcement officers did not explain how the three Sibiians ended up robbing two people from Craiova, in a local motel.
The three suspects, remanded in custody in Craiova
Also on August 30, the three suspects were brought to hearings in Craiova. Later, following the administered evidence, the police detained them for a period of 24 hours. On August 31, after a night spent in the IPJ Dolj prison, the defendants were remanded in custody for aggravated robbery. The arrest warrants were issued by the Craiova Court. At the end of November, the court ordered the extension of the arrest warrants issued on behalf of the defendants.
The court’s decision was appealed to Dolj Court by the three defendants. On Tuesday, December 5, the judges rejected their appeals as unfounded. The decision of the Dolj Court is final, so the three Sibians remain behind bars.
A woman and her son, robbed in Craiova
In October, the Craiova prosecutors ordered the prosecution of the defendants. The file was registered on the roll of the Craiova Court. At the end of November, the preliminary chamber judge found the legality of the indictment and ordered the trial of the defendants to begin. In the court decision, it is shown, in short, how the aggressors acted.
“By exercising acts of physical violence and threatening with a knife, they stripped the injured person (…) of the jewelry she was wearing, the iPhone 13 Pro Max mobile phone, 5,000 dollars, 500 pounds and 2,000 lei, and on the person injured (…) by a handbag containing the key to a family car, an external battery and a charger for the iPhone 13 Pro Max phone. Then, they tied the injured persons over their hands, feet and mouth, in order to ensure their escape, the injured persons suffering injuries that required 5-6 days of medical care for healing”, the court ruling states.
On December 6, the decision of the preliminary chamber judge was contested by the 24-year-old.
