An arrest warrant was requested for the CEO of a construction company that had arrears of 700 million won in wages for 300 construction site workers.

Daegu District Prosecutors’ Office Western Branch Criminal Division 3 (Chief Seo Young-bae) announced on the 18th that it had requested an arrest warrant for Mr. A on charges of violating the Labor Standards Act.

Mr. A, the representative of a subcontractor, is accused of failing to pay 757 million won (10 months’ worth) of wages on time to 313 workers at an apartment construction site in Daegu last year.

Mr. A received payment according to the construction progress stage from the main contractor who entrusted the construction, but it was found that he used it to repay personal debt.

A prosecution official said, “It has been confirmed that Mr. A has a history of receiving criminal punishment for non-payment of wages,” and added, “We plan to take strict action, including arrest and investigation, against business owners who habitually fail to pay wages.”
