ANKARA – The Turkiye court issued an arrest warrant for Rasmus Paludan, a Danish anti-Islam politician, following his act burn the Qur’an in front of the Turkiye Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Paludan action took place on January 21, sparking outrage and condemnation throughout the Islamic world.
Collect Anadolu, Thursday (20/7/2023), an investigation launched by the Ankara General Prosecutor’s Office against Paludan on charges of openly insulting religious values is ongoing.
As part of the investigation, the Attorney General’s Office requested the arrest of Paludan to obtain information regarding the burning of the Koran.
Ankara’s 8th Peace Criminal Court, after evaluating the request, decided to issue an arrest warrant for Paludan.
It is not yet clear whether Turkiye authorities will be able to arrest Paludan in another country.
Ankara was furious when Paludan was given permission by Swedish authorities to burn Muslim holy books outside the Turkiye Embassy in Stockholm last January.
Responding to Sweden’s permission, Ankara at that time canceled the visit of Swedish Minister of Defense Pal Jonson to Turkiye.
