Nettetal/Kleve/Kempen. Late on Sunday evening, May 21, 2023, two North Macedonians, aged 46 and 49, traveled from the Netherlands to federal territory via the A 61 federal motorway in a VW Golf registered in Ludwigshafen.
During the inspection at the Nettetal junction, the visibly nervous people stated that they had been in Eindhoven for a day. When asked whether they were carrying prohibited objects, weapons, drugs or cash worth more than 10,000 euros, the travelers answered in the negative. As soon as the trunk was opened, the officers noticed a pungent smell of chemicals. During the subsequent search of the vehicle, a total of 8.35 kilograms of MDMA crystals (methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine) worth EUR 275,500 were found in the spare wheel well and seized.
Both people were then temporarily arrested and taken to the federal police station in Kempen. After completion of the police measures by the federal police, the Essen customs investigation office took over further processing. By order of the judge, the couple is in custody. The synthetic drug MDMA crystals (methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine) is ecstasy in crystalline form. (ots)
