A man was shot by the FBI in Utah on Wednesday August 9 as officers attempted to arrest him in Provo, south of Salt Lake City. He had been under surveillance for months by US authorities for making threats against Joe Biden, and the decision to arrest him came hours before a scheduled visit by the US president to the state. An investigation is underway, added the federal police, without providing details on the man.

The latter, however, was identified as Craig Robertson, in a complaint by federal prosecutors in Utah. According to this document, he was a septuagenarian who presented himself as a strong supporter of ex-president Donald Trump, and repeatedly threatened Joe Biden in publications on social networks. His Vice President Kamala Harris, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Prosecutor Alvin Bragg – who oversaw the investigation that led to an indictment of Donald Trump in New York – have also been threatened, as have FBI agents. themselves.

“Now is the time for a presidential assassination or two. First Joe then Kamala!!!”says one of the posts, published in September 2022. “I hear that Biden is coming to Utah (…). I’m dusting off the M24 rifle. Welcome, jester-in-chief!”, says another, published a few days ago. The man had also, according to the same source, published numerous photos of firearms. President Biden is currently visiting the western United States and is scheduled to travel later Wednesday to Salt Lake City.

The Secret Service, responsible for protecting senior state officials, said it was “aware of FBI investigation involving an individual in Utah who threatened a Secret Service protected person”but did not provide any additional details.
