Arrest Made in Tupac Shakur Murder Case: Duane “Keffe D” Davis Charged

On Friday, 60-year-old Duane “Keffe D” Davis was arrested in Las Vegas, charged with the murder of Tupac Shakur, who was shot after a boxing match in Las Vegas in 1996.

Davis is a former gang boss, and also appeared in the investigation of the murder of the rapper and Tupac rival Biggie Smalls, who was killed in Los Angeles six months after Shakur, writes the news agency Associated Press (AP).

According to the police, Davis is accused of having ordered and facilitated the murder of Tupac Shakur.

– Talk to yourself in prison

The murder of Biggie Smalls, who was born Christopher Wallace, was investigated by the now retired detective Gred Kading in Los Angeles. He says to the AP that Davis came into the police’s spotlight because he had been at the same party as Wallace, shortly before he was shot and killed.

No one is responsible for the murder.

The Los Angeles police helped build a federal drug case against Davis to force him to talk to them. In the hearing, he confessed that he was involved in the Tupac Shakur case.

– He gave all the details about how he and his accomplices killed Tupac, says Kading to the news agency.

Davis had been given immunity, so that what he said in the interview with the Los Angeles police could not be used against him there.

But when he chose to give the same details in documentaries, podcasts and an autobiography. That allowed the police in Las Vegas to open a case against him.

– He simply talked himself into prison, says Kading.

Became a suspect early on

The murder of Tupac Shakur has been the subject of a number of documentaries in the nearly 30 years that have passed since he was shot while sitting in a car.

There has been a lot of speculation about who was behind it, and there are many who have thought that there must be a connection between the murder of Shakur in Las Vegas and the murder of Biggie Smalls a few months later.

The investigators of Tupac’s murder also early on had Davis in their sights as one of four possible suspects. The other three, including Davis’ nephew, Orlando Anderson, who got into a basketball fight with Tupac Shakur on the same night as the murder, are now dead.

In the autobiography “Compton Street Legend” from 2019, Davis writes about how he obtained the weapon that was used to shoot Tupac. But write that it wasn’t him who shot.

He is not charged with shooting, but with facilitating the murder. According to the laws in Nevada, you can be charged with a crime even if you have only helped.

The family waiting

The sister of Tupac Shakur, Sekyiwa Shakur, calls the development in the case a victory, but that she will wait to release the jubilation until the legal apparatus has done its job.

– Many people have been involved and there is still much that is unclear about the life and death of my brother Tupac and our family. We want justice on all fronts, he wrote on Instagram, according to BBC.

Shakur’s stepbrother, Mopreme Shakur, wins CNN that he is surprised that it took so long for the police to charge Davis.

– We have been through decades of pain. They’ve known about this guy, who’s been talking for years. So why now? For us, this is not over. We want to know why and if there were other accomplices.
