More than a year after the events, the gendarmerie was able to identify and arrest the individual behind a series of burglaries committed during the summer of 2022, in Loireauxence (Loire-Atlantique), Ancenis and Oudon.
The 32-year-old man was taken into police custody on Tuesday September 12, 2023 after a long investigation, which led the gendarmes to the Nantes remand prison, where he was incarcerated for similar acts.
He took the train to Nantes
The latter had committed twelve burglaries in the Ancenis sector, from mid-July to the end of August, nine in Loireauxence, two in Ancenis and one in Oudon.
“He took the train to Nantes, commented on his actions near the stations, then left,” summarizes Jean-Bernard Ferrere, second in command of the Ancenis gendarmerie company. “The residents were starting to worry. »
Jewelry, cash and multimedia
The same operating mode was identified by the investigators. The man broke into the home during the day, taking advantage of the occupants’ absence during the summer holidays. He would break down the front door or break a window to get to the lock.
“Then he partially searched the homes and stole what was easy to steal: jewelry, cash and multimedia. Certainly for resale,” continues the captain.
The traces left on site, in particular DNA and the neighborhood survey allowed investigators to trace the individual. “We had difficulty formally identifying him, because he is someone who has already been convicted for similar cases, but who presented himself under different names. »
