Arrest Made in Murder of 80-Year-Old Stepfather: Java Melvin in Custody

The US Marshalls regional area reported that it arrested Java Melvin as the alleged perpetrator of the murder of his 80-year-old stepfather.

Melvin was followed by authorities and arrested on September 27 in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Authorities say that on September 17, the suspect planned the murder. He put on a balaclava and lurked outside Vitilio’s house.

The subject approached his stepfather on a bicycle when he was returning from a sweet 16 party, where the suspect and victim allegedly lived together, and shot him in the head.

The 80-year-old Dominican died at the scene in front of his wife Luz Collado.

Melvin is awaiting extradition to New York to face charges.
