NEW YORK — A man has been arrested for the rape of a 10-year-old girl in Manhattan, police say. His arrest comes days after community advocates issued a public plea for help in stopping the child sexual predator.
Wednesday’s arrest comes more than two weeks after the disturbing attack sent East Harlem into a tizzy.
Investigators allege that the suspect, who has a history of federal arrests, connected with the girl on an app on January 6 and met her that night around 9 p.m. near Third Avenue and East 122nd Street. , where he raped her before fleeing.
He was located Wednesday near 129th Street, police said.
The suspect is a driver for the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. The commission did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
The girl was taken to a hospital for evaluation and is expected to be physically okay.
