NEW YORK – Authorities arrested the suspect in the A frightening sexual assault in the Bronx in which he used a belt to grab a woman by the neck and then abused her in the middle of two cars.
The alleged attacker, 39-year-old Kashaan Parks, was arrested early Saturday morning in the same county and faces charges of first-degree rape, second-degree assault, strangulation, sexual abuse, ana -public speaking and harassment.
The police shared a disturbing video of the attack that happened in the early hours of May 1, at 3:00 am, in the hope of catching the accused. The video shows a man following a woman near East 152nd Street and Third Avenue in Melrose after talking to her. He walks behind.
He then hangs a towel or white shirt over his face to hide his identity, removes his belt, and uses it to tie it around his neck. He throws back hard, sending her back and to the ground, where she hits her head on the pavement. The woman dies before the man allegedly drags her between two parked cars and sexually assaults her.
The man, who police identified Friday as Parks, can be seen on surveillance video bending over her and looking around again to make sure there are no witnesses, authorities say.
Police said the victim, who is recovering from the attack, told them she identified Parks by her distinctive teeth and described past incidents in the neighborhood with him. The NYPD released images of Parks as they continue their investigation.
The victim came to our sister network NBC New York in the area last week and wanted to share her story to protect other women in the area.
“He put a belt on me because he wanted to ask me for sex in exchange for money. And I told him no, and I kept moving. Then he grabbed me from behind with a choke belt and dragged me to the ground , there next to the cars and I forced.” said the victim, who NBC 4 does not identify.
She said the suspect said nothing before launching his attack from behind. He died for what he said about 20 minutes before he got up and looked for help.
“I got up and talked to some neighbors so they could give me some advice on what to do. So I went to the hospital and got an emergency kit, and they gave me some injections and stuff. And then I went to the police and reported him.” , he told NBC New York.
The victim said she was still afraid because the suspect is known in the area and that she might attack again, especially given his alleged history.
“I’m worried, I’m really scared in my life because he can show up at any time and do something to somebody again,” she said. “This isn’t the first time he’s done this to a woman It’s like the second time he’s done that to a woman.”
Parks is expected to appear in court in the coming days.
