Arrest made for posting seditious messages on social platforms: Breaking News

The National Security Division of the Police (National Security Division) carried out law enforcement operations in Tuen Mun District yesterday (16th) afternoon and arrested a 57-year-old man on suspicion of violating Sections 9 and 10 of the Crimes Ordinance, Chapter 200 of the Laws of Hong Kong. “Committing an act with seditious intent”. The police alleged that the arrested man was suspected of continuously posting messages with seditious intentions through social platforms on multiple occasions, including inciting others to cause hatred against the central government and the Hong Kong SAR government, advocating “Hong Kong independence”, calling for sanctions against government officials and inciting the use of violence. The police subsequently searched the arrested man’s residence and seized electronic communication tools used to publish messages with seditious intentions. The National Security Department tentatively charged the arrested person with one count of “committing one or more acts with seditious intent” this afternoon (17th). The case will be heard at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow (18th) morning.
