On Wednesday afternoon, the police went out to the Pilestredet/Bislett area in central Oslo, after what was described as a threatening situation with an ax involved.
At 18.30, the police located the suspect at an address. About half an hour later, they report that the person in question has been arrested.
Dagbladet’s reporter at the scene states that the police must have used tear gas to gain control of the suspect.
Photos also show heavily armed police in the area.
– The police have a greater use of resources at the scene. We ask people who are nearby not to seek out/gather at the address, but rather to move away, Oslo police district wrote on Twitter earlier Wednesday evening.
The police action resulted in traffic being blocked, including the tram, in Welhavens gate.

The original threat situation must have arisen in connection with the discovery of an attempted bicycle theft.
– Then acted threateningly and was in possession of an axe. We have good photos of the perpetrator and expect to be able to identify the person in question, the police wrote on Twitter earlier on Wednesday afternoon.
They assessed that the situation is not a danger to other people in the area, but that they wanted space and peace of mind for emergency crews on site.
