Arrest Made After Intoxicated Driver Verbally Abuses and Threatens Police Officers

The control of a heavily intoxicated car driver (59) ended in the night of Sunday, August 13, 2023, with an arrest. The man had verbally abused and threatened the intervening police officers several times.

Shortly before one o’clock in the night, the 59-year-old from the Weiz district was subjected to a traffic control in Wetzawinkel. The car driver had previously noticed the traffic patrol because of his unsafe driving style on the L366 (Rittscheinstraße). The officers then stopped the vehicle and carried out a routine driver and vehicle check.

Heavily drunk

During the subsequent check, police officers then found signs of alcoholism in the driver of the vehicle. They then asked the 59-year-old for an alcohol test. This showed that he was heavily under the influence of alcohol, which is why officials took the man’s driver’s license on the spot and prohibited him from continuing to drive.

This may not have suited the 59-year-old. During the official act, he repeatedly expressed his displeasure to the police officers in an aggressive undertone. In the course of a legal instruction when the driver’s license was taken, the man then began to insult the officials. The ongoing insults eventually turned into threats.

Police officers subsequently arrested the 59-year-old and transferred him to the Weiz police station, where the man spent the night in custody.

When he was questioned on Sunday morning, the 59-year-old then confessed. He is reported at large by order of the public prosecutor’s office in Graz.
