Arrest in Colorado dog breeder murder case

There is a significant development in the murder of Colorado dog breeder Paul Peavey. Authorities announced that a man has been arrested for murder. 36-year-old Sergio Ferrer, who was identified early on as a suspect, is the focus of the investigation. Ferrer was arrested the same day Peavey’s body was found, but initially for failing to appear in court in Nebraska on a separate weapons charge. On Friday, Ferrer was finally charged with several counts, including first-degree murder, murder in the commission of a felony and aggravated robbery. The case also gained a lot of attention because up to 10 of Paul Peavey’s Doberman puppies are still missing. It is believed that finding the puppies could provide crucial clues in the murder case, but authorities have not released any further details about why Ferrer was considered a suspect or a possible motive. It is unclear whether Sergio Ferrer has legal representation. Attempts to reach his family for comment were unsuccessful. Peavey, who was last seen on August 19 and reported missing on August 21, was found dead in his home on August 24. Authorities ruled his death a homicide by gunshot wound. “Paul was a wonderful person,” said Meredith Mazutis, a fellow Doberman breeder. She expressed relief that an arrest had been made in the murder case but stressed the need to find the missing puppies. “Paul is gone. We can’t get him back,” she added. Paul Peavey bred European Dobermans on a 110-acre property in Idaho Springs, about 30 miles west of Denver. His three adult Dobermans were found unharmed on the property, but up to 10 puppies are still missing, according to authorities. An investigation into their whereabouts is ongoing. Anyone who has purchased a puppy from Peavey since June is being urged to contact authorities. A European Doberman puppy typically costs between $3,000 and $4,500 from a breeder in the United States. John Walter of DobermanPlanet.com stated, “There has definitely been an increased demand in recent years.” He added that Dobermans make great family dogs as they are the only breed of dog bred for human protection.
